Rookwood Cemetery has been operating since 1867, and is one of the largest cemeteries in the Southern Hemisphere. Rookwood’s longevity makes it a rich and valuable source of Australian history and culture, with great emphasis being placed on conserving the unique heritage of the site. With close to a million burials since the cemetery’s establishment, it is likely that many of us would have a relative whose resting place is within Rookwood’s gates.
~~~
The Anglican and General Cemetery Trusts are responsible for the burial, care and maintenance of 92 hectares of Rookwood, approximately one-third of the cemetery. We conduct funeral services and burials, as well as inter ashes, for many religious denominations.
We also offer a family history research service, conduct restoration projects and provide a site for training in the funeral services industry. In addition to finding an abundance of historical information about Rookwood and in particular, the Anglican and General sections, we also have several other features on our site:
-
Daily Services – a list of today’s burials and ash interments
-
Deceased Search – search for a deceased family member or friend in the Anglican or General section records
-
Monuments in Memoriam – our own stonemasons specialising in construction and renovation of monuments (formerly trading as 'General Cemetery Trust' stonemasons)
-
Reflections at Rookwood Cafe – the perfect place for a coffee, quick meal or to hold a function/wake
