About the work
I chose to create a gargoyle for my entry because, despite having worked on a large number of sandstone buildings within Sydney over the years, I have never had the chance to create one. The Frazer Mausoleum, an iconic vault in Rookwood, provided inspiration for my carving.
The block of stone I was assigned had excellent potential for a gargoyle, with perpendicular running sediment grain.
